Veterans & Valentines Adoption Event Honors the Human-Animal Bond

This February, The Animal Foundation is opening its doors for a special adoption event centered on gratitude, connection, and second chances. Veterans & Valentines is a one-night adoption event dedicated exclusively to active duty service members and retired veterans, recognizing the powerful role animals play in emotional support, companionship, and healing.

The event takes place on Monday, February 9, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with The Animal Foundation opening on a day it is typically closed to ensure greater access for those who have served.

Supporting Veterans Through Adoption

Thanks to the generous support of the Penn Entertainment Foundation, adoption fees for all adult dogs and cats will be fully waived for eligible participants during the event. The goal is to remove barriers to adoption while creating meaningful, lasting bonds between veterans and pets in need of loving homes.

Veterans & Valentines is rooted in preserving the human–animal bond and honoring the service of those who have given so much by offering companionship that can be life-changing for both people and pets.

Who Can Participate

The event is open exclusively to active duty service members and retired veterans. Participants should bring a valid military ID or proof of service. A $10 licensing fee may apply depending on the adopter’s city or jurisdiction.

What to Expect

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet adult dogs and cats available for adoption, speak with knowledgeable staff, and take the next step toward welcoming a new companion into their home. Whether someone is seeking a walking partner, a quiet companion, or a loyal presence at home, the event is designed to support thoughtful, responsible adoptions.

Why This Matters

For many veterans, pets provide comfort, routine, and unconditional companionship. By pairing adoption support with community recognition, Veterans & Valentines highlights the role animals play in emotional well-being while helping shelter pets find stable, loving homes.
